Nellie Artemysia McKay

Fine Artist and Miniaturist

My name is Nellie to my friends, I have been a painter for most of my life and love all forms of art. A while ago my paintings began to shrink, I began to create miniature oil paintings after a diversion became an obsession. I bought a run down doll house and decided to do it up for my late teens daughter as she had never had a doll house as a child. The do it up became a serious refurbishment with electrics woodwork making wall papers and soft furnishings. I began to want to do it all and do it to the best of my ability even with limited experience. That then let to an extension on a Sid Cooke shop so that Cornellieson Art Shop could have an artists studio next door. Obviously, if I'm in the studio and somebody comes into the shop, I need to be able to go through and greet them easily! Followed by even more serious wood work including lathe and bent wood and then ooh why not make a gallery to show the paintings of the art studio? Serious Obsession! Obviously as a painter I needed to create the paintings for it. Crikey that's when I realised that I enjoyed working in miniature. I could do my own work , I could do a miniature Mona Lisa of which I would of never have before considered as the expense and time required would of made it difficult to rationalize. The moon was now a balloon and the art world was my oyster, brilliant! Then I thought why not try and make them to sell, maybe other people might like them? Then why not sell them through a miniature gallery with an art crate and certificate of authenticity? Why not have preview evenings and a virtual gallery tour? Imagination is a wonderful thing.
